Myofascial Release - Cranio Sacral Therapy

Myofascial Release (MFR)is a gentle form of releasing tight connective tissue caused by physical injury, poor posture, illness, inflammation, stress or other conditions. These conditions put uneven loading on the body. This causes connective tissue to become tight and constricted.

The connective tissue is called fascia and it links every body part. All movements are created by tensions carried through the connective tissue fabric.

When the body is healthy and balanced, the connective tissue can stretch and adapt as a person moves. When trauma, injury, repetitive movement , or postural deviation occurs, connective tissue can become tightened. This is when myofascial release is helpful to restore function.

The therapist places their hands gently on the body to facilitate an unwinding of restricted tissue. This unwinding is followed as it twists and turns, barrier through barrier, until the fascia is released. An increased range of motion is accomplished resulting in Pain relief.

MFR treatments take sixty to ninety minutes. Depending on the condition being treated subsequent sessions may be necessary. This treatment is very gentle and relaxing and is suitable for all ages including infants.

Craniosacral Therapy (CST) is a hands-on healing technique, whereby therapists gently mobilise and release the craniosacral system, which includes the soft tissue of the head (cranium), the spine down to its tail end (the sacral area) and the pelvis. It focuses on the movement of the cerebrospinal fluid, which is produced and absorbed by the body and in particular, the irregularities in the flow of this fluid.

The movement of spinal fluid within and around the central nervous system is believed to create a vital body rhythm, equally important to health and well-being as the beating of the heart or the breath. This therapy may be of benefit in many areas, including hyperactivity, cerebral palsy, dyslexia and stress related problems.

CST helps to boost general well-being, reduce stress, improve quality of sleep, increase energy and enhance the functioning of all the body's organs. It is a non-intrusive therapy that works with the entire structure, physiology, mind and spirit. For a treatment, clients usually lay on a massage table and the therapist works with the client fully clothed. It is a very gentle and profoundly relaxing procedure that lasts between 40 to 60 minutes. It is particularly suitable for those who have had head trauma and for treating babies & infants.

Myofascial Release and Craniosacral Therapy as Remedial Therapies are often combined in the same treatment as they are more effective if given together for addressing most musculoskeletal problems.
